Club

MJ is the goalkeeper for the Nirvana Mystique ‘05 girls located in the Hudson Valley of New York. She often guest plays with other teams in the Eastern NY region as goalkeeper. Teams include the Albany Alleycats and Nirvana Breakers.

High School

2021-2022 (Junior)

Throughout her junior season MJ got significant minutes both in between the posts and on the field as a central midfielder; offensive and defensive. In addition to starting and playing a full 80 minute game in goal, MJ also stayed in for overtime periods.

As a central midfielder MJ played a strong role both defensively and offensively. Defensively, MJ chased 50/50 balls, prevented passes into the attacking third, and defended incoming balls from corners. Offensively, MJ had several opportunities to score on free kicks, service balls to the top of the box, and attacking corners. MJ also facilitated offensive movement by feeding various through-balls and moving her teams position from the middle third to the attacking third of the field.

In goal MJ showed her proficiency in communication by talking with defenders and directing midfielders. Her distribution varied from long-distance punts; to efficient throws to midfielders, or short passes to defenders. MJ’s overall performance as a keeper gained her the award of “Defensive Player of the Year” at the end of the season. Her ability as a keeper also gained the attention of a local newspaper where her coach elaborated on her importance to the team’s success, “MJ has been killing it all season,” Wood said. “We ended up two games above .500, and we wouldn’t be anywhere near that without her. She’s been doing a really good job…”

2020 - 2021 (Sophomore)

During MJ’s sophomore season with Wallkill, she continued to compete at the Varsity level, playing both in goal as well as in the field as a center defensive midfielder. MJ received significant playing time throughout her sophomore season, playing about 30 minutes in the field in the first half, and playing the entire second half in goal.

As a center defensive midfielder, MJ would win 50/50 balls such as punts or goal kicks from the opposing team and create scoring chances by feeding through balls to her forwards.

In goal, MJ filled the role as an on-field coach through efficient communication. Over three different tie-games, she allowed 0 goals through all 6 of the overtime periods that were added. MJ also made several critical saves that ensured her team a win.

2019 - 2020 (Freshman)

MJ was brought up to the Varsity girls soccer team at the Wallkill High school during the 2019 season.  She played several halves as keeper as well as significant amount of time as a field player as a defensive midfielder.  She also got time between the posts in the MHAL playoffs and the Section IX playoffs in 2019.
